Week 3 - 30 second TV Advert

Week 3 –

Tuesday –
In Tuesday’s afternoon session we had another minutes meeting and we discussed some issues which arose with idea. As a group we felt that the message was not clear enough and the message was quite violent and could give the wrong impression. So we resolved this problem and now everyone is happy with our new idea.  For the rest of this session, I was finishing off my content analysis and contingency plan.
Wednesday-
In Andy’s morning session, I started on the script for our group idea and I managed to complete it, and then in the afternoon, I made some changes to it, to make sure it matched the documentation of our groups work.  Harry showed us how to write a shooting schedule and a shooting script. I didn’t find this too tricky to do as an exercise. After I did this, I continued to write up my blog and make sure I kept my work up to date. Also, I was finishing off my storyboard.

Friday -
In Andy’s lesson, I continued to finalise my script and storyboard, so everyone is comfortable with the decisions made within the documentation. In this lesson, I learnt that the detail is crucial in a storyboard, so that it gives a good idea on what the shots will look like.  In  Simons lesson, I continued to put evidence inside our groups folder and type up a minutes sheet. Also, continued my blog so it was up to date.

Week 2 - 30 Second TV Advert

Tuesday -

In Andy's afternoon session in the part of the lesson, I was continuing with the research and gathering necessary resources to help me contribute towards my final idea. In the second part of the lesson, we got into groups. The students who were in my group were (Shona, Danny and Hannah.  As a group, we were talking confidently to each other and making good progress on deciding our final idea.  Also, we had to choose which roles we will take on as a group. We did this quite quickly as we didn’t have any queries on our decisions as a group. Here is the productive schedule:

I felt as a group, we have achieved final decisions and this has made me confident enough to feel that we will work well together and each one of us will use our productive time efficiently. By having these minute meetings, I have learnt to communicate better in a group and achieve better results. I have done a lot of group before hand in GCSE drama, so I’m fairly confident in a group anyway.  The communication skills which I noticed I had improved on was making myself more open about my ideas and opinions on each other decisions, but also making sure I don’t dominate the group, so that everyone gets a fair say about the decision being made.  At the end of the day, I was very happy with my group and was comfortable with most of the decisions made.

Wednesday –
In Andy’s morning session we were continuing our individual work. I finished my journey plan in this session. We had a quick group meeting rounding up our minutes meeting and discussing further details and ideas for our final idea.   In Harry’s afternoon session, we looked at scripts and how to write them up properly. We were given a handout on an example a of a script from the movie crash and a handout which explained the professional techniques to use when writing up a script. I found this helpful as it gave me a good idea on what to include in a script. I have never written up a script before and found this very helpful as it gave me an insight into what a good script needs. After, Harry explained to us about the script, I was writing up my own script for the exercise without any problems. Harry then introduced us to the storyboard where he showed us the different types of shots to include in your storyboard. I found this fairly straight forward and easy, but it’s just very time consuming. I started to do my rough storyboard in this lesson and I almost managed to complete my storyboard in this lesson.

Friday -
In Andy’s lesson, I continued my research for my brand because I needed more detail in my research because I haven’t touched all the areas in the research yet. Also, I started to draw my final story board and have made changes to it.  In Simons afternoon session, we were just continuing from our last lesson.

Week 1 - 30 second TV Advert

Wednesday- In our morning session with Andy we looked at a plan we had to do, so we had to explain all the different sections which is required to make a TV Advert. Also, we had to explain the outcomes if we didn't follow the advert correctly. From the morning session I learnt that there is a lot of things to consider to help make a good advert. In our afternoon session with Harry, we continued our lesson from this morning by wirintg up our plan. Also we started to look at how to do a treatment which Harry explained really well because I managed to write a treatment excercise without any problems. I carried out these tasks for the rest of the lesson. Also, we had to do an design idea for the four brands (Kit Kat, Diet Coke, Sure Deodrant and Mobile Phone)  for our TV advert idea. The Afternoon session was useful as I can now write treatments and understand them clearly on what to write.

Friday- In our morning session with Andy, Andy explained more deeply about the brands which were Kit Kat, Diet Coke, Sure Deodrant and Mobile Phone. We all had to choose one of our four ideas and develop it further, so that we can write up a treatment about that Idea. I choose Kit Kat because I had many Ideas which I could incoporate into one final idea. Once I had completed my idea, I had to start to research the Kit Kat brand so I know their history and the sort of adverts which they make.

In Simon's afternoon session, I was really just starting a new blog so I could keep progressing through the work and keep a record of the things which I have learnt so far and any quieries with this work which I have come across with this unit of work. Also, I was developing my idea further in my treatment as it needed to be more detailed.

Minutes Meeting One & Two

Minutes Meeting One

Our first meeting went very well because we responded  well to each others questions about our final idea which we are going to pick. We choose Danny's idea and his chosen brand was 'Kit Kat'. We didn't have any issues which arose at the start of our first meeting. However, our group did pick up some concerns about the idea. We felt that the idea we choose was a bit vague on getting the message across to the audience. Also, we were also concerned about whether it would fit in the 30 second TV advert. We didn't approached these ideas and tried to resolve them, but members of the group weren't quite satisfied with our decisions. We will come back to this later on in our next meeting.

Minutes Meeting Two

Our second meeting was quite formal as we found the solutions with the problematic queries
Of our idea. We resolved these problems by changing the ending of our idea.  This worked as everyone agreed with this. We were also discussing our skills profile as a group and we concluded, that the following listed attributes as a team were;

-          Make sure everyone’s involved didn’t make anyone feel left out
-          Successful in a team
-          Working efficiently

The only attribute, which we felt as a team, we should have had was Bringing up issues at the right time.

Group Final Idea

We all discussed our ideas and we decided to choose Danny’s Idea because it was simple and a good idea.  His idea was a bully stealing the main characters Kit Kat and then retrieving another Kit Kat from the vending machine and throwing the Kit Kat at the bullies head. After this a slogan would come up and say ‘Kit Kat. You know you want two’. However,  there were few issues which were tweaked  like for example, throwing a Kit Kat at some ones head is considered violent and some viewers might not like it. Also, we felt the message wouldn’t be clear enough to get it across the audience. So to resolve the problem we looked at the possible issues and we resolved.
Here’s our new improved idea instead of throwing a Kit Kat at the bully, we will have a typical geeky main character.  This character will buy the Kit Kat and the bully will push the geeky guy against the vending machine. The main character will throw the Kit Kat and the Bully will catch the Kit Kat and the main character will say “Have a break, Have a Kit Kat”. Some of the other ideas were Shona idea. It is good because its fun and has a catchy slogan.
The reasons why we didn’t choose it was that we weren’t really familiar with working with that Idea as most of the group did Kit Kat. Also, Shona didn’t show enough detail in her advert idea. Hannah’s idea was about a woman called Sophie who is a hard working person who works long shifts. After a long day at work, she makes a cup of tea and sits down to eat a Kit Kat with the factor of tension involved in the advert.  This was a good idea and I liked it but it didn’t really stand out as a unique idea because it has been done a lot of times. My idea is quite similar to Hannah’s, but instead she is working in a cafĂ© and goes buy a Kit Kat from the vending machine. She forgets to take the Kit Kat because of the time. The Kit Kat hops out of the vending machine (stop motion) and slides up the pavement into the shop and then hops into the bag. The slogan comes up and says “Kit Kat is your friend. Not just chocolate”.  I
liked my advert and I thought it was good, I didn’t really have any main queries with it. The only things which I noted down which could be a problem was the fact that it may not fit in the 30 seconds and it will be hard to do. Overall, the reasons why I chose Danny Idea was the fact that it was quick humour which will appeal to the audience.

My Idea for my TV Advert

My Brand is Kit Kat

First Shot - A girl/boy walks down the corridor and goes to the vending machine. The girl buys a mars bar and a kit kat. Takes the mars bar out but forgets to take out the Kit Kat. The Kit Kat (using stop animation) walks up the path way and into the cafe where the girl is and hops into her bag. Kit Kat Product appears and the slogan comes up with "Kit Kat is your friend" "Not Just chocolate".

Skill Profile

I haven't used a film camera before and also I haven't used any editing software lile adobe effects or premiere. However, I can pick up software quite quickly and I will be able to use it without any problems. I think I'll be confident enough to use a camera without any problems.  When i come  to making deicions in my group I will be confident enough as my communication skills are quite good.

Our Group are quite good as we can openly discuss what Idea we want to do. Some of the skills we noticed we had as a group were we are using our time effective. We didn't leave anyone out we made sure they were involved and we motivated members of the group neogotiating a suggestion for our final idea, as we had a few issues which we solved. The skills which we need to work on is to bringing up issues at the right time, so we can solve them more quickly, so it doesn't slow down our production scedhule.

Research Kit Kat

Looking at Different Adverts throughout KitKat History. Noting down slogans colours and techniques from these adverts.

30 Second TV Advert Introduction

In this group task, I  will have to make a 30 second TV advert. Before I start to make my advert within my group, I will have to research my brand idea. My Brand is Kit Kat, so i'll have to research Kit Kat to the extent that I will know how to make a advert which is most suited for the Kit Kat Brand. I have finished the plan and now im writing up my treatment for my idea.
